W. Bro. Dean Hankins 2025-2026

Welcome to the Verulam Lodge website. I’m Dean Hankins, and it is a great honour to serve as the Worshipful Master of the Lodge for a second term, especially as we celebrate the start of the Lodge’s 80th year.

Over the years, we have welcomed members from all walks of life, including accountants, school teachers, hairdressers, mechanics, shop workers, undertakers, and legal professionals.

Verulam is a friendly Lodge founded in 1945, located within the Masonic Province of Hertfordshire. We meet at Ashwell House in St Albans, are warranted by the United Grand Lodge of England, and are among the oldest Lodges in the Province.

I hope our website gives you an insight into freemasonry and, in particular, Verulam Lodge.

If you would like more information about the history of Verulam Lodge or freemasonry in general, please click on the ‘History’ or ‘FAQ’ tabs.

Where and when do we meet?

‘Unlike many Lodges that meet on weekdays, our meetings are held on Saturdays starting at 4:30pm. Over the years, this has proved very popular as work pressures prevent many people who would otherwise like to become Freemasons. The meetings last between one and two hours and are followed by dinner, and we meet at Ashwell House, 167 Verulam Road, St Albans, Herts, AL3 4DW.

Our meeting dates are as follows: the third Saturday in October (Installation), and then the third Saturday in January, March, April, and May.
